I really liked this. Great advice.

Lots more smokers and overweight/obese people here than SFO and if you are a male here, you probably drive a pick up truck.

Now to avoid most of that, locate in the RTP area and you will be OK.

Charlotte IMO is the home of the largest number of rich rednecks in the Southeast.
Lol....wow.

I think the OP is looking more for reassurance that the earth will continue to turn on its axis and less about what it's like. I'm just sorry that mlhm5 picked a crummy neighborhood. It's just tacky to try to scare the kid like that.

Not true; most political analysts label NC as practically the most "Purple" state there is, look it up. It went to Obama by the smallest margin of any state in 2008, and to Romney by the smallest margin in 2012.

That said, since San Francisco is probably the most liberal, "politically correct" place in the US, yes, it will be quite a culture shock politically.

"They" is not the whole population, but it does describe most of the state Legislature at the moment. Most North Carolinians don't hate gays, though the number who support same-sex marriage is around 50%, depending on the poll. Yes, there are some extremely conservative churches here, and a high number of less conservative ones (as well as plenty of liberal ones). NC does have a lot of churches, as do most states with rural heritages, North or South.

That's a pretty safe bet, since Confederate flags are almost never seen outside the South, so the SFO number of them is probably 0. But, you will see very few in urban/suburban areas of NC, where most of the population live.

That's not true. I saw plenty of them up in New England. Also, I think (hope!) that the post you're replying to was a joke.

It'll be fine if you're moving from the Bay Area (not SFO, but the area).

Traffic isn't as bad and you don't have a large city like SFO nearby. Closest would be either Atlanta or DC if you want a larger, more metro sort of feel.

If you're moving to the Triangle area or Charlotte, you'll have a far easier time adjusting.

Talk about stereotyping and hate bating our great people of NC!!! This is utter nonsense being spewed by a hateful person! fact: We are not like California, THANK GOD! This person has a good opportunity to adapt here like anywhere else in our Free Country. If they can't try or want to adapt, stay in California.
