I am looking for a small town. I want everyone to know everyone, and have a good scenes of community. I would really like to be by a river, lake, or ocean. Or in the woods some where. I am in my early 20's.. Am I looking for something only in movies? Hopefully y'all can give me some ideas to where to go, I really love North Carolina area specially around the capital. Anything would help, just something small. Thanks!!

There are literally dozens, if not hundreds of small towns in NC that match your criteria. Do you have any other criteria to help narrow it down? Is employment an issue? Mountains? Coast? Near a bigger city?

In the absence of additional information, I'll go ahead and nominate my town, Southport. Less than 3,000 people, right on the Cape Fear River, great sense of community and its been the star of several movies, including most famously, Safe Haven.

Between him, Andy Griffith, and the occasional Margaret Mitchell we'll never see the end of these threads.

I can't speak for the "community feel", as I haven't been to these, but they each have some interest. Saxapahaw near the Triangle. Chocowinity on the coast. Weaverville in the mountains. And Andy Griffith's TV set: Mt Airy.

Apex, near Raleigh, is a larger suburb with a small town core. I wish the OP had said how he intends to make a living.

Here is a list of NC cities and towns. You can use the drop-down menu to limit it to certain population bands.

Do some research on a few, and get back to us when you have a short list of them. There are hundreds of towns in NC, you need to provide more specifics than you are.

Would you be needing to find a job, too? A lot of the really "small towns" in NC are pretty dried-up as far as industry, except a little bit of farm-related stuff left.

Why have you chosen NC specifically? Plenty of other states have small towns as you describe, too. Are you looking into other places? Just saying "I want a small town in NC" doesn't give enough information. Have you sat down with a map and considered what areas of the state suit you best? Do you know anything about NC at all?

No. But sometimes I think it's not realistic.

Small town life can be fine. But it can also be intrusive. When everybody knows everybody, that means they know everyone's business too. That's not a bad thing either. I think it can just be unexpected.
