I know people that ride it From Fayetteville to Raleigh, Charlotte to Raleigh, Raleigh to Charlotte
They can't ride it from Fayetteville to Raleigh unless they're stopping to change trains in Rocky Mount. Fayetteville is served by the Palmetto and the Silver Meteor, neither of which stop in Raleigh.
I've taken the Piedmont & Carolinian trains numerous times between the Triangle (Cary & Raleigh stations) & Charlotte (Kannapolis station). It's a great way to travel between the core cities in the state. Certainly better than that dealing with I-40.
I have ridden the Silver Star from Southern Pines to NY and also Fl a few times. The going is slow sometimes only 45 mph because you are riding on CSX and other freight lines until you reach the Amtrak rails in DC which is the Northeast corridor . Then you will be traveling at over 100 MPH.
Last year I was 4 hrs late getting into NYC becuse of heavy traffic and other disabled trains. If you're not in a rush Amtrak is better then driving. My ticket to NY is cheaper than the cost of gas.
Under normal conditions the train is about 2 hrs more than driving to NY. 12 hrs vs 10

I've mainly taken it to DC and NYC. I used to have to travel to NYC once or twice a year for a conference I was involved in and the convenience of the train far outweighed flying. No TSA getting all handsy or looking over backscatter x-rays of you in a backroom, if your seatmate sucks you can go to the cafe car, you can get an actual meal, and when you arrive you're actually in Manhattan as opposed to having to take a cab or train from Queens or the train from Newark. Beyond that, the last time I flew with delays and security theater, it wound up taking just about the same amount of time I would have been on the train.

I didn't say that it was a direct ride from Raleigh to Fayetteville or Fayetteville to Raleigh. I simply said that he hopped the train from one city to the other. I can see where you misunderstood my statement. You are absolutely correct, they had a layover in Rocky Mount. I apologize for the confusion. What I was saying is that People from each city travel to the other

No worries and thanks for the clarification! Just wouldn't want somebody cruising here to think there's a direct rail link from Fayetteville to Raleigh. There should be, of course. I hope the plan that was once floated to extend the Piedmont out to Wilmington and Asheville eventually comes to pass.
