My husband was driving on the 85 going 76 in a 60 mph zone. The state trooper gave him a court appearance date in May. What is the maximum penalty for speeding with a permit/no license?

What happened to his license? He has never had one? It fell out of his wallet and doesn't know where it is? Its been revoked due to previous driving convictions?
I know it's acceptable to drive 15mph over the speed limit in the North East but that doesn't fly down here. Expect points on your license, increase in insurance premiums and a fine.
You can get away with 8mph over at the very most in NC.

Max penalty is 120 days in jail but I doubt he gets any time as long as he doesn't have a DWI. A decent lawyer should be able to get a prayer for judgement & he will have to pay a pretty good fine.
Whats a permit? A learners permit? I thought thats what teenagers got between drivers ed and being able to get an actual license.
I never heard of an adult having to have a learner's permit. Though I confess to not having read the "how to get a license as an adult if you've never had one" instructions.
Is this an out-of-state license?
Was he driving with a licensed driver at the time? Because if he wasn't, I think that's the same as driving without a license.
