Hello

This is my first time here, I apologyze in advance if this question has been answered. My friend is a single mother from Pennsylvania and she wants to move to North Carolina. She wants to know if she'll have to take any other tests/courses or if NC will accept her current PA Teacher Certificate.
I would greatly appreciate if someone could give me an answer to this question.

It depends on what test Pennsylvania requires. If they've taken the PRAXIS, they are fine, as that is what NC requires. State specific tests may vary. I moved from Michigan, where they have their own tests (MTTC) and the only thing I had to do was write out a check for my license.
So, likely, that is all your friend will have to do, too.

It probably will be transferable. I have a teaching license for Ohio, and I moved to NC to take a job as a teacher there. All I had to do was apply for an NC license and pay a fee. I did not have to take any additional tests.

When did you get your NC license?

I sent in all of the paperwork in May, and I got my license a few weeks later.

I didn't have to take the PRAXIS and I haven't taken it in my previous state either.

She'll need to check with the school system she's interested in or call the NC State Dept. of Public Instruction and see if NC has a reciprocal agreement with PA. If they do, then she's good to go.

What about if you have a teaching certificate from New York State? Do schools hire you with your NYS license and give you a grace period to apply and receive your other certificate, or do you need to have it in order to be hired in the first place? thanks!

They will hire you before you get it. My district took care of all the paperwork, so all I had to do was write a check.
