Hello all,

I am looking at this house tomorrow:
2304 Old Aberdeen Rd Rockingham NC.

It seems to be exactly what I seek: a small (under 600sf) house with a good sized yard, in good condition in a small safe town, under 30K.
I called the PD and they said it is in a great section! So I am kind of excited.

Can anyone tell me anything about Rockingham, in general?
I am an older widowed lady, will be living alone, retired, and want to do dog fostering and animal shelter volunteer work.

Are the folks friendly?
Is there an animal shelter where I could volunteer, closer to there than Fayetteville? Fayetteville is the closest "big" city, correct?

Rockingham has a animal shelter, and according to their website, they would love to have some volunteers:

| Richmond County, NC - Official Website

Fayetteville and Greensboro are each about 1.5 hours away. Asheboro and Southern Pines are closer, though much smaller than F'ville or G'boro.

Rockingham is a fairly depressed city, economically, although since you're retired that shouldn't matter too much.

Not to be paranoid, but frankly, I'd email the moderators and ask them to delete your address from your post.

Best of luck to you!

It's just the address for the house for sale, but I guess you mean if I buy it then it'll be my address?
Hadn't thought of that, here I am stating how I'll be a solitary older female and advertising my vulnerability as a victim.
If I get to foster dogs I'll likely get some scary looking ones anyway
Awesome about the local shelter, thanks! Those other cities won't be close enough to drive to to do volunteer work more than weekly or so.

Economically depressed is OK, won't affect my circumstances.

Are folks generally friendly to newcomers? I figure to join a good church and meet folks that way.

Every bit of an hour and half, and a horrific drive.

The 'hood was GREAT! Perfect actually! Am loving these east NC towns I'm looking in.

The house was cuuuute. Right up my alley!

But needed major work not obvious in photos.
Seriously there was NOTHING I saw in there newer than circa 1965, and I am sure wiring and plumbing are original and from the 1920s.
The age given was 1952, there is no way this house was built later than 1930.

If I got it for like 10K, that'd be one thing but for 27K they are asking and it needs I'd say 15K of renovation, I just cannot afford.
Am looking in ALABAMA now (online).
