Charlotte and Greensboro has a lot of old mills to redeveloped.
Revolution Mill looks like a nice project.
Much of North Carolina has historic mills that have been redeveloped...you can do a search and find a long list for the state. Durham and Winston-Salem have done a tremendous job with this as have other NC cities.
Charlotte keeps being mentioned By MLB commissioners and other MLB people as a top contender for an MLB team and they'd like to see a team here.
Also Charlotte Independence has ambitions for MLS and will be teaming up with the city to convert memorial stadium in Elizabeth by the Gold Line into a soccer stadium built to MLS standards. The owners goal is to become MLS.
That would give us 5 major league teams. 6 if you count NASCAR. Major League Lacrosse has a team here.
I have my doubts about MLB but MLS is a possibility. They have also looked at Raleigh too. But I highly doubt both cities will get an MLS team.
As far as MLS, that is the goal of the current owners of Charlotte Independence and I think it's a really good shot here especially building an MLS stadium. I'd be surprised if we didn't get MLS. MLB chatter has been more "in the next 10 years Montreal, Portland, Charlotte, San Antonio would be great fits" but no community support at least publicly that MLS has. I'm doubtful of MLB

The Triad has also off and on been trying to land a Major League Soccer team. There was an effort in the early 2000's to build a major league soccer stadium in downtown Winston-Salem. That proposal fell through and then Triad leaders presented a visionary plan for a major league soccer stadium between Greensboro and Winston-Salem which would be part of an over all development plan. I remember back in the late 1990s when Don Beaver Tried to bring a Major League Baseball team to the Triad after the Minnesota Twins were considering relocating to North Carolina. That effort led to renderings and even a referendum for a prepared food sales tax to help build the stadium on the Guilford/Forsyth County line. The taxpayers voted against it. In the 1960s the Triad was very close to building a sports complex between Greensboro and Winston-Salem which would have included a NASCAR track and an NFL stadium. The NFL team would have used the Greenbay, Wisconsin model, but local leaders voted against it. The closest the Triad has ever come to having a major league sports team is when Greensboro was the temporary home for the NHL Carolina Hurricanes while the RBC Center in Raleigh was being built.
