I'd like to see their "flawed reasoning" come back to bite them in the rear. Imagine, the first gay magistrate who will only sanction gay marriage and will not marry a straight couple because of his or her "so-called" religious beliefs. The state assembly would be saying "Ah,ah ...no we didn't mean it to do this!" Well, too bad - so sad, it can apply to the reverse situation!
Religious beliefs are a civil right. Also your comparison doesn't work, there is a difference between a private business and the government. The government is not allowed to decide which religious beliefs are valid and which ones aren't.

The very act of having religious beliefs is "practicing the religion of your choosing". The government is telling the magistrate "your beliefs are invalid, you must perform this ceremony" so yes, it is making a decision about the validity of someone's belief.

Brad, you're at it again.
Under British rule. people who were not Anglicans were called Dissenters. Dissenters did not qualify for the same rights as Anglicans. The freedom to practice religion means that you can not be classified as a citizen with lesser rights because of your religion. That does not give you the right to push your religion down the throats of others as they do in Rowan County & it doesn't give you the right to deny someone a service that your job requires you to provide just because. . .
If the magistrates don't want to perform their duties for everyone, let them find another job.
