Surprised no one mentioned Hammocks Beach/Bear Island near Swansboro...I have heard it is a treasure. But it doesn't seem to be well traveled.

If you're in the east, I love Goose Creek State Park! Near Little Washington.

I agree with you, I go to Hanging Rock at least once every two months or so. It definitely is one of my favorite parks.
