There are farmer's markets. Mebane has one: https://www.facebook.com/MebaneFarmersMarket/

There are a bunch of others in the area. This link has a good list for Alamance and Orange Counties: https://alamance.ces.ncsu.edu/farmers-markets-2/

We're a little too warm for good orchards here although there are a few. Most of the apple growing is in the mountains around Hendersonville, NC near Asheville. We do lots of berries around here. Plenty of places to pick strawberries and blueberries, occasionally some cultivated blackberries.

A little closer than Hendersonville, the Brushy Mountains in Wilkes County are known for their apples. It's a straight shot up I-40 > US 421. Here's information about apple orchards in Wilkes County and nearby.

The Brushy Mountain Apple Festival in downtown N. Wilkesboro is touted as one of the largest one-day arts and crafts festivals in the Southeast. It's on Oct. 1 this year.

Burlington and Durham, have large Black populations and are close to Mebane (twenty something minute drive). Mebane is about 20% African-American, from the numbers I'm seeing
