I was on my way to school in Winston-Salem almost late for class, and I was driving pretty fast and on top of that I was going down a hill.
Right when I was about to turn into my campus, a cop turned his lights on and pulled me over.

He claimed I was going 58mph in a 35mph zone, and issued me a ticket with reduced charges to 44mph in a 35mph zone.

The fine is $15 + $180 in court-fees.

Is it worth showing up in court and try to fight a 9 over ticket and it and get it reduced/dismissed?
I plan on extending the court date as long as possible in hopes that the cop wont appear in court assuming that NC law doesn't mandate cops to appear in court.

The main thing I want to avoid is my insurance going up.

If you really were going 23 mph over the speed limit, he did you a huge favor to give you the ticket you got. You could always hire an attorney anyway, but it seems you got less than you deserved.

Ask your insurance company what a conviction of 44 in a 35 will do to your insurance. Then you can decide if its worth hiring a lawyer.
