Trying to relocate to area. We have two children in elementary school and looking not only for good public or charter system but homes with a little land. .5-3 acres. Any ideas would hope to go under 280000.

What "area"? The entire state of NC? You're going to have to narrow the geography down in order to get a meaningful answer.

Agreed that the OP must be more specific about where in North Carolina they want to locate. It would also be helpful to know how they make a living, and what size town they need to be in.

If the wage-earner can find a job in Eastern North Carolina, I'd suggest Newport, Hampstead and Winterville.

If they could find work in the Triad, I'd suggest the Northern Guilford Elmentary school district. If they are looking in other areas, i suggest looking at schooldigger.com, and looking for "hot zones", then focus in on the communitiy.

As others say, you're asking for neighborhood info in an entire state. You ask about "the area" but don't say what area. No mention of work, a certain city, what draws you to the area, etc. There are hundreds of neighborhoods that meet your criteria, in this state and others, but without more to go on, there is no helpful answer to your question.

Moderators have helpfully created this thread that they ask people to read and take heed of before posting generic "where in the whole state should I live?" info.

I am now puzzled by your title. Winterville is nowhere near Fayetteville. However, the search methods I follow will help you with anywhere.

Check the SchoolDigger web site, and you will find that Raeford and Hope Mills have some of the better schools at the elementary and middle school levels. Additionally, one of the best high schools is Jack Britt in the Rockfish area of Fayetteville.

Then if you look at a real estate site like Realtor.com, Raeford has many homes under $280K with over half an acre. You can check the listings for Hope Mills, but I am sure there are many in your price range.

And you'll find that the Cape Fear District has 4 of the top 5 elementary schools in the county and Cape Fear High School is an excellent school! You'll also find plenty of land out this way, and get plenty of bang for your buck....Eastover, Stedman, Vander areas.

This hold true for almost every state. Good schools follow the money. A good education requires well trained and compensated teachers. You're not going to find that in the boondocks where cheap property is located. You need a concentration of money (taxes) that support schools.

Your best best are the suburbs of the cities of NC just like the suburbs of all the other cities in all the other states.

Of course there are exceptions and you might find that in NC but it will require a lot of research.

An anonymous recommendation from somebody on the internet is not a guarantee of good schools.
