I live in Boston Mass and hate the cold weather and want to move somewhere were it is warmer. I went to school in St.Pete Florida and liked it but i think that i would miss having four seasons. I settled on North Carolina because it is in the south but not as far away as Florida. I would like to know if North Carolina is really the place that I envision it to me, with warm southern hospitality, friendly people, and especially friendly young women. I was wondering if any locals could tell me what the average temperatures are this time of the year. Also I would like to know how the women of North Carolina are. I find people to me cold and unfriendly in Boston and was wondering if all the stereotypes about southern women are true. Finally i was wondering if someone could recommend a good area for a young white 20 something male to live that would have decent size houses in the 100 to 300 thousand dollar range. I would prefer a small to medium sized community.

Can you look people in the eye you don't know and say Good Morning? Oh yeah and smile afterwards. Can you say please and thank you or you're welcome? These are things I took for granted in the south. When you move north you find they just aren't polite.

i am from the north and now that i live here, i say Hi to some people and they dont say hi back! and those people are from the south.
actually people from the north are very nice once you take the time to get to know them. they may not be overly freindly to strangers, but there are reasons for that.
to the original poster, your post is kind of scary in the way that you are talking about or inquiring about women...

Everything you have ever heard about Southerners is doubtless a stereotype.
NC is a big state with a huge variance in climates, particularly from west to east, northwest to southeast. It's warmest in the east and southeast and coldest in the northwest and west.
I'm about equi-distant between Greensboro and Raleigh, we actually had about 3 inches of snow this year, the dogs loved it. Greensboro is friendly, the area was first settled by Quakers, Friendly Avenue et al, Guilford College, 2 Universities, several colleges and a community college in G'boro, geared more toward youth than some other communities. Raleigh is full of politicians, ergo, something about having that many crooks in close proximity makes people leary. I usually have to wear socks about a week or two every winter, I do have a winter coat, it doesn't get a lot of wear, it will last me a long time, assuming I don't gain much weight. Most of the people I meet up with are friendly, they speak when spoken to and smile back, but, then again, I am in a small town. I have found N.C. to be basically friendly, so will most people as long as they don't insist that we do things the way they were done where you come from. As a basic rule of thumb, we really don't care how you did things up north, we won't insist that you change, and if you try to change us, you will meet with resistance. It's one of those "go with the flow" type of thing, as long as you are polite, and smile when you speak, you will get along just fine.
