I thought this might be useful for folks trying to figure out the location of a specific N.C. county mentioned in these various messages. With 100 counties, even I get confused at times.
I find it amusing that:
The city of Asheville is NOT located in Ashe County.
The city of Henderson is NOT located in Henderson County.
Wake Forest University is NOT located in Wake Forest, NC.
Oh and the town of Lenoir is not in Lenoir County either. It is located nearer the mountain area of NC. I remember when I was in the fifth grade, we were required to take North Carolina history. We also had to draw a map of North Carolina and label the counties although thinking on this, I believe the teacher provided the map and we had to label the counties. One interesting observation I made then was that some of the smallest counties had the longest name which no way to put them on the county itself. It was nice to see that I was not the only that resorted to county 1 and 2 with arrows to the name of it. LOL
