Safest States to Live In

North Carolina came in 23rd nationally, well ahead of Tennessee (47th), South Carolina (46th) and Georgia (32nd). We score best in Home, Community & Workplace Safety.

Interesting metrics, as several of the criteria are based on high spending for government services. I imagine if one of the factors was safety FROM government abuse, the list would shuffle a bit.

I'd say so.

With the horrible governance from our GOP legislature and Governor the NC government has never been a more serious threat to the safety of ALL North Carolinians.

I wouldn't trust any workplace safety records that come out of Cherie K. Berry's office. She has an deplorable record on employee safety and is in the pocket of the businesses she purports to regulate. If 20 employees of Raeford Chicken fell into a vat and were ground up into chicken tenders, she would report "slight brusing had occurred" ( ...on the chicken tenders containing the ground-up people!) and "nothing serious" had happened. She's a "business is always right and the employee is always wrong" type of gal. Employee accidents get buried by her office, making the state seem to be a "shining example of safety". It isn't!!!! She's the North Carolina Commissioner of Labor who wants to keep North Carolina a "right to work for less" state and will stop at nothing to keep it this way.

The best the entire Southeast could do is 23rd nationally? That's an embarrassment. Yay, we're average!

I think it's a fairly universal phenomenon that as you get closer to the equator the risks increase, the food gets tastier and the women get hotter.

You got to be kidding. Virginia is absolutely in the southeast.

If you want to believe Wikipedia as a valid resource:
"There is no official Census Bureau definition of the southeastern United States. However, the Association of American Geographers defines the southeastern United States as Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia."
