Check the specific sub-forums for suggestions neighborhooods and schools. For example, Charlotte sub-forum if the husband finds a job in Charlotte, Triad sub-forum if the job is in Greensboro or W-S, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill sub-forum if the job is in one onf those places. All will have nice neighborhoods and schools.

I would seek out the Charlotte area and the Raleigh/Durahm area. Both have suburban areas that are safe and affordable. Pluses for RDU; the healthcare system is one of the best in the nation. Great colleges. Pluses for Charlotte; more to do in terms of recreational assets. Larger with more of a big-city/urban feel (which can be either a plus or minus, depending on the person). Good luck!
