The Andy Griffith show was filmed in California too.

Tons and tons of movies and television shows are not filmed where they take place.

One famous example is "Friends" was never filmed in New York City.

But yes, it was very obvious how this was not North Carolina. I also laughed at the mountains that were near the coast of North Carolina.

Turnabout is fair play! The Fox series "Sleepy Hollow" was filmed in Wilmington and New Bern that was supposed to be Westchester County New York. They might have shown the Tappen Zee bridge during the opening credits, but that's as much of New York as you'd see! As soon as anyone was running through "the forest", you could tell from the trees, that you weren't in New York!

Ryan Murphy, who developed AHS, also came up with "Glee" and "Nip-Tuck". Given that he is a big supporter of gay rights and has hosted Democratic Party fundraisers with Obama and Clinton at his $12,000,000 house in Malibu, I doubt that given the current political climate in NC, he'd spend even the smallest fraction of a second to think about actually filming here!

To add more insult to injury, thanks to the "forward thinking" of our beloved Governor and state legislature largely doing away with tax credits for films and television productions, "Sleepy Hollow" and the rest of the TV series that filmed around Wilmington are happily being made around Atlanta Georgia!

It's too early for productions to have left due to HB2. The massive cutbacks to the production subsidy on the other hand...

But even then, it's far from unusual to shoot something in Hollywood that's set elsewhere. That's how the vast majority of shows are done.

I grew up in the DC area. I have seen a lot of movies over the years that are set there and obviously shot somewhere else (its always funny to see skyscrapers in "Washington DC"). This is nothing new.

I remember doing a double-take a while back when I drove past a Washington Metro sign somewhere around Charlotte when they were filming "Homeland" here.
