Hi Where do you think it's the best place to retire in North Carolina area from Durham to the coast? Given the fact for medical facilities is first on the list. One story home under $200k. Thanks a bunch.

Durham is home to Duke Hospital. Chapel Hill is home to UNC Hospital. If good medical facilities are your priority, the answer to your question is easy - live near Durham/Chapel Hill. You should be able to find an older ranch home under $200K somehwere in the vicinity.
I guess as a second choice, Greenville would work as it is home to ECU's Brody School of Medicine and their associated teaching hospital.

The question is almost impossible to answer without knowing your preferences for country versus city life, and the amount of space you want.
However, I would choose Durham in a heartbeat based on availablity of medical care and urban amenities like bookstores, concerts and other cultural activities. You can easily find a single story house with about 1600 square feet, a garage and a decent sized yard in a safe neighborhood for under $200K. You could also find a nice single story condo where you could get all the maintenance done.

You're welcome. I added something to my post which is Greenville - home to ECU and their medical school. It looks like Poppydog recommended it, too. If you want to be more eastern, that would be my choice. Any other requirements?

How would I look for the single story condos in that area? Thanks for your advice as always!
Online sources, such as Realtor.com, or with a Realtor in Durham.
Yes. You can restrict Realtor.com to Condo/townhouse in "property type", and under "more" in options there is a "single story" option. There are some in the Hope Valley area, some on Finsbury Street near RTP, etc.
