I was in Fayetteville earlier this year do to my grandmother passing. I have to admit, that I'm sorta biased in my opinion of Fayetteville. It holds a special place in my childhood years.
To answer the question, some development in and around downtown. It's starting to come alive. That is surprising because coming down from D.C. downtown Fayetteville was always an eyesore. But they really are trying to make a change down there. Chance are outside of that, not much has changed. Still slow paced and home to 5 Super Walmarts LOL.... Oh speaking of which they added a Super Walmart on Ramsey street passed Methodist College. I like that one a lot better than the one on Skibo, that one is always crowded. I know that is not world class news but you asked for change, here ya go.
Oh one more thing is that they are popping up housing developments and condo's left and right. Brac has highlighted Fayetteville as a recipient of some military units being placed there. So that might be the reason for the housing development. Hopefully th city will try to attract different types of industries into the city. That will help to employ the people and spur even more development for the city.

Yeah, Fayetteville holds a special place in my heart too. I was with the 82nd Airborne then and that holds a special place in my heart, dearly. I really did miss living there.
I miss some of the bars/nightclubs too (because they had memberships. That was the only way you could get in). I wished they had that here, that way the "bad" type of folks won't come in.
And I miss some of the restuarants there too. I loved Fat Daddy's. That was my favorite place to eat out at. They served the best quesadillas in the world, in my opinion.
Was at Pope 1999-2008. Not much has changed....the dam in Hope Mills gave out in '03, they were still trying to repair it when I left....Spring Lake put up some dividers in the road....red light camera came up...they opened a new Wal mart in Spring Lake....that's about it.
And Pope fell under BRAC, so now the 440th reserve took one half of the base while Bragg got the other half. Most of the AD on Pope were PCS'd.
A lot of new things going on. Hay Street is a cool place with really nice condos and townhomes. Great place to buy a home.
