Limited assortment/discount grocery
Aldi (1 store): Morganton
Former grocery participants in Burke County include supermarkets Winn-Dixie (exited in 2005 with one store remaining in Morganton), Harris Teeter (exited in 2012 with one store remaining in Morganton), and Lowe's Foods (exited in 2013 with one store in Morganton).
Walmart Supercenter, Walmart Neighborhood Market, and Food Matters have opened in Morganton in the past five years. Aldi has been around for at least ten years.
I wonder if there could be further changes in grocery participants in Morganton as supermarket Publix and limited assortment/discount grocer Lidl expand across North Carolina and supermarket BI-LO closes stores or converts stores to Harvey's Supermarket.
Ingle's #10, 305 West Meeting Street, Morganton, North Carolina 28655-3866
I noticed Ingle's had a store, store 10, at 305 West Meeting Street, Morganton, North Carolina 28655-3866. Burke Mission Station currently occupies and owns the building.
I wonder if Ingle's #10 was replaced by store 129, Magnolia Plaza, 1227 Burkemont Avenue, Morganton, North Carolina 28655-4541, in the 1980's.
A retailer is opening in the former Walmart #1060 at Magnolia Plaza. It is not a sports and outdoors store. I though the former Walmart #1060 would be the location of a new Ingle's #129.
BI-LO #5437, 1555 East Union Street, Morganton, North Carolina 28655-5326
BI-LO ix exiting Burke County.
BI-LO #5437, 1555 East Union Street, Morganton, North Carolina 28655-5326, is among ninety-four BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harvey's Supermarket, and Winn-Dixie stores Southeastern Grocers announced to close on Thursday, 15 March. ("Restructuring." Southeastern Grocers.)
