Sounds like the right person but wrong location. I'm a huge theme park/coaster fan, but this park would have to be home run initially to get us to visit it so far off the beaten path.

Two problems

Bad location and wrong concept.

The location was way out in the boondocks. The concept was outdated, seemed more like a theme park from the late 1960s, not the 21 century.

Additionally, construction of new theme parks in the United States has slowed down almost as much as mall construction.

Yeah, it was clearly the pipe-dream of someone who is an engineer/builder of such things, not a marketer or business person. Terrible, terrible location both for difficulty of access and poor infrastructure (roads, sewage), and because the local community was not in favor of it. A concept like that might work in the mountains where there is already a tourism economy that trades on nostalgia, but as it was proposed it was just a bad idea.
