There are LGBT groups who feel that Cooper betrayed them. I get why they're upset with the compromise, but what the hell did they expect Cooper to do? Veto the damn bill and risk any chance of doing away with HB2 in the foreseeable future?
They knew the GOP had veto-proof majorities in the GA and that Cooper wanted a full repeal from the get-go, but couldn't get it. The compromise is also temporary, since whenever the Democrats retake the GA, I'm pretty sure doing a full repeal will be the first thing they do.
Cooper was put in a "damned if I do, damned if I don't" situation. I don't blame him at all. He did the right thing by signing the bill, IMO.
I also don't think that it's a mere coincidence that the moratorium ends in 2020, a gubernatorial election year.
Agreed! I may not be in full support of the compromise, especially the 3 year moratorium before cities are allowed to enact their non-discrimination ordinance, but something is better than nothing at this point!
Think it is HILARIOUS that the hard core left is angry, and the hard core right is angry. At the same time, about the same thing. Sounds like a perfect compromise.
Actually it sounds like a "reset" to early fall 2016, with a huge difference. Massively greater empathy from near everyone on trans discrimination. That has got to be a net positive.
Good news, IMO. If the ACC is satisfied, chances are the NCAA will be too. Think domino effect.
For the most part, this compromise is all about getting the backing from the business community and trying to get the NCAA and the ACC to host their events in this state again, this is what this compromise is really targeting! If that happens, then this compromise has done its job!
The pressure is already on business and national leadership to deem the repeal insufficient. It has unleashed a new round of denunciation and activism.
RT @ACLU: Fake repeal of #HB2 leads to real lawsuit from us and @LambdaLegal. We'll see you in court.
God, they're dense! A full repeal is not going to happen as long as the GOP control the GA! What part of that do they not understand?!
And Cooper didn't get played. He did the best he could in a sh*tty situation. Cooper showed more backbone in the last few hours than McCrory ever did during his whole term. At least Cooper got Berger & Moore to drop the "rights of conscience" provision. That was the sticking point the other day.

This is is the thing that I don't like about these groups;, their little agenda is more important instead of working towards something in which both sides can benefit in the long run! I'm just happy that HB2 is no more! Let's make NC great again!
Just going to have to wait and see if the NCAA gets the OK from their sponsors. Their was a great ESPN radio show a few weeks back......NCAA was not going to pull out of NC, until they got a call from Pepsi.
"The recently passed legislation allows the opportunity to reopen the discussion with the ACC Council of Presidents regarding neutral site conference championships being held in the state of North Carolina. This discussion will take place in the near future, and following any decisions by the ACC Council of Presidents, announcements will be forthcoming.”
