Someone told me that you do not need a lawyer in North Carolina to purchase of sell a home, but I know someone who bought a home in Charlotte, NC and they needed a lawyer. Do you need one in NC?

Generally the buyer chooses the attorney, who handles the closing. Usually that is the only attorney involved. An exception is new construction, where the builder chooses the attorney. Your realtor is responsible for ensuring that the HUD statement is correct.

I would advise getting an attorney. Coming from Jersey, it should have been my first step but boy did I falter BIG time! Having an attorney represent MY family (we were the buyers) would have made the process smoother. Someone (besides the Realtor) should have been protecting OUR interests.

Sincerely,

SL

Wait, so I'm hearing that the Title Companies do not do the closing. Wow!!!! I don't know about this!!!! The attorneys know nothing about what has been done in the process or buying and selling. So many things can go wrong at closing!!!!! I prefer working with Title Companies.

No title companies can do the closing.

On a side note the Realtor would be in close contact with the attorney to make sure all goes smooth. The attorney would also order title search etc it would be apart of the fees.

An attorny does not hurt plus they can really help you with the small print! and that can save you a lot of money in most cases. Most people do not want to deal with an attorny because they are too expensive! Which is understandable. Have you ever heard of prepaid legal? If not you should really check it out! and if so still check it out. Believe me it makes since!
