I'd love to see both cities get a team. A strong intrastate rivalry that fans of either team could attend all matches would increase the engagement and value of both teams.

You can google all the numerous things that have been happening between Charlotte and MLS with deep talks and lots of meetings and stuff.

Charlotte is starting to seem inevitable, particularly, I just don't think Raleigh has anywhere near the chance Charlotte does. There were rumors that that last expansion round, MLS really wanted Charlotte but we didn't have our crap together. Now that we have Tepper and the Panthers, Ally Bank, Stadium, etc. have been hammered out.... Seems like MLS is gonna get a Charlotte team.

And FYI, I mention Charlotte Vs. Raleigh for the most obvious reason. Only 1 city of the 2 is going to get MLS. If another city gets it, there is still hope for either city. But once either CLT or RDU gets a team. That's adeus for the other.

(On a random note, I would like to see Raleigh get an NFL team. I think Eastern NC & Raleigh-Durham Area could be a draw for such a team.)
If Charlotte gets MLS, then I predict the Triangle gets MLB.

I don’t know baseball that well, but if Charlotte just had the Panthers. I would question if even then CLT could support a team. There are like. 4 home games a week it seems like in DC for the Nats.

The amount of games played is crazy

I definitely think Charlotte could support it. Tons of baseball fans in the area. Plus it's something to be said for being the major metro of the Carolinas smack in the middle of both Carolinas....

The MLB to Raleigh thing is a lark. It’s an interesting lark, one that CBS sports recently put in its proper context in relation to Portland and Montreal. But until Goodnight or someone decides to throw his weight in, it is just an ingenious gimmick.

^ Ally Banks tweet and video supporting MLS in Charlotte. Really pushing hard for MLS. I’m impressed that they got a sponsor to go all in.

The metro GDP would suggest that Charlotte is overdue for a 3rd pro team for sure.

Do the numbers suggest Charlotte could handle a 4th pro team? How would MLS impact a future MLB bid?
I’d say this may be a blessing in disguise for the Triangle,if Charlotte gets MLS? How many cities have 4 pro teams? That’s a very select list.
