RDU is how a lot of people refer to the region shorthand.

Like CLT. Like ATL.

I’m aware it’d an airport code and I’ll continue to use it when referring to both cities.

No one calls the Triangle “RDU”. Not online, not in real-life, no where except in this thread from what I can tell (it might just be you, I don’t keep track of who says it on here). It’s weird. No one says GSO for the Triad or BWI for Baltimore-DC. No one in Chapel Hill would say I’m in RDU and if they did no one would have any idea what they were trying to say. They’d be given directions down 40 to the airport.

I hear what you're saying but nobody there calls it RDU. It's always "The Triangle" in reference because the area is way more than just two cities. It's notably the cities of Apex, Cary, Durham, F-V, Morrisville, Raleigh, and Wake Forest. It's a giant fused metro area of sorts and while there's a lot of development for sure in the Durham and Raleigh parts of it, all those other cities I just mentioned literally border them and are seeing their own takeoff as well.

A huge number of people live/play in Apex, Cary, Morrisvile, and even Wake Forest. They "commute" to work in Durham and Raleigh. It's not unheard of by any margin to potentially live in Cary, work in Durham, and have dinner in Raleigh -- for example. Everything is that intertwined in the Triangle region.

A tower that will rise above most of Ballantyne has begun construction.

Charlotte-based Panorama Holdings last week broke ground on a 14-story,
vertical mixed-use development that will include a 186-room AC Hotel by Marriott,
nearly 100,000 square feet of office space and a rooftop restaurant and bar in one
building at 14819 Ballantyne Village Way. The project, Panorama Tower,
is expected to deliver in early 2021.

This is Charlotte 3rd AC Hotel

^ Nice. I like to stay in the Ballantyne area when I visit so more options are amazing. Bet the view is great up there too.

Latest tower proposed for uptown would bring more multifamily to market

A rezoning application to build a new residential tower with ground-floor commercial space in uptown near the AvidXchange Music Factory has been filed with the city.

Carolina Development Group NC LLC has filed a petition to allow entitlements of up to 320 multifamily units and up to 5,000 square feet of commercial space in a 32-story building on North Smith Street, on a portion of the block bounded by Smith, 10th and Graham streets in Fourth Ward, with Interstate 277 immediately north of the site. The site is behind Garrison at Graham Lofts, a condo building.

Russ Sinacori, owner of Sinacori Builders and the listed petitioner, could not be immediately reached for more information. Carolina Development Group NC LLC is registered to an individual, Chris Miller, out of Asheville. Sinacori is primarily a homebuilder but also does land development for other groups in the region.

Good news for Wilson and Durham.

https://www.newsobserver.com/news/bu...233104347.html

Quote:
Merck, a pharmaceutical manufacturing company, is bringing 425 new jobs to the state in exchange for $12.5 million in incentives.

The company will build a 225,000-square-foot drug manufacturing facility in Durham that will produce GARDASIL 9, an HPV vaccine.

Some jobs will be added in Wilson County as well, with the expansion of an existing packaging center.

The state is awarding a total incentive of $8.8 million, with $4.97 million being through a JDIG award.

Durham County offered $3 million in incentives, and Wilson County offered $750,000.

The minimum average wage for the new jobs will be $73,382. Durham County’s average wage is $68,731, while Wilson County’s is $44,012.

Merck will be required to invest $680 million in the project by the end of 2023.

Durham beat out West Point, Pennsylvania and Elkton, Virginia to win the project.
