This is as good a place as any for this article. Raleigh was listed as a city that will thrive post pandemic. In fact, it was listed #1.

First Citizens BancShares, Inc. and CIT Group Inc. have merged. Raleigh-based First Citizens will be the 19th largest bank in the US once the merger is completed.

They've been planning a new building for 20 years in North Hills maybe this will be push to actually break ground on a new building.

The big news is the 2nd campus of Wake Forest School of medicine in Dilworth (just outside of downtown Charlotte). Currently, the closest 4-year medical schools to Charlotte are located in Spartanburg, Winston Salem, and Columbia. There are ZERO 4-year medical schools in metro Charlotte. According to Atrium health and Wake Forest, Charlotte is the largest US metro area without a 4-year medical school. This is simply unacceptable and embarrassing. I'm thrilled to see a real effort to correct this issue.

As for the development in Ballantyne, it's long overdue. The southern perimeter of Charlotte near Lancaster county SC has been in need of a real town center for awhile now. My biggest fear for that area was that South Carolina could have done it first (similarly to how Fort Mill SC beat South Charlotte with Baxter Village). The Ballantyne development could definitely worsen local traffic, but it could also resurrect the idea of a light rail station in Ballantyne.

The 6 parking space development in my opinion probably won't happen in that location. There's a lot of opposition to gentrification there already. Also, the "own a car and get evicted clause" would be a better fit for uptown, midtown, or South End. I do like the creative effort to address the affordable housing shortage though.

I just drove through NC yesterday and I-85 in Charlotte has too much trash along the shoulders and Raleigh freeways and thoroughfares are strewn with trash and 4 ft. tall weeds in all the guardrails at entrance exit ramps that look awful.

I emailed NCDOT last year about the tall weeds in Raleigh but it looks like this year they didn't do any mowing or weed-killing at all in the Pandemic when traffic was light.

I'm glad to see the new LED freeway lights in Charlotte and, of course, Raleigh's freeways don't have lights at all unfortunately save for a very few on a couple of interstates so it's a moot point there.

Sometimes I wonder why Raleigh gets so much national hoopla because it streets look sloppy and overcluttered with signs, etc. that isn't very attractive in my opinion. Roadside aesthetic consideration is non-existent except for the freeways that look great without billboards.

It's such a dichotomy in appearance.

I'm surprised this wasn't posted given the lack of development projects recently. This project will fill the gap nicely between Charlotte's skyline and the emerging Southend skyline.

Earlier this year Bandwidth announced they are building a new HQ in Raleigh. They have just released renderings. Very suburban, but very nice.

The race to 40 stories in downtown Raleigh has a new runner after Highwoods Properties (NYSE: HIW) filed a rezoning request earlier this month that would clear the way for development up to 40-stories on a collection or parcels in the Warehouse District.

The request looks to rezone properties at 327 and 321 W. Hargett St. and 213 S. Harrington St across from The Dillon Apartments. The properties currently allow for just 12 stories of development.

According to the filings, the rezoning would allow for the redevelopment of underutilized properties in the city. They also note that the property is not in a downtown transition area, “supporting the proposed building height of forty (40) stories."
