Hello everyone!

I am going to retire (public pension) in the next few months, we are married and our children are all grown and in college. We will be moving from New Mexico (yes in the US lol) and are looking at the Carolina's near the coast but not necessarily on the coast.

We would like a low crime area in a middle to upper middle income area. Schools and work are not necesarially important, but the bettter the job market and better schools mean a better community. We are in our upper 40's so we still want to get out and do things but do not necessarilly need to live in a city, but would like to be a maximum of about 40 minutes away from a urban enviornemnt.

Do not necessarily want to move into a "cookie cutter" type subdivison, but an established neighborhood would be fine.

Thank you so much in advance for the help and input!!!

C & K

Why Savannah? Georgia is more tax friendly than NC

We will be "semi retiring" in about 18 months and will be moving to Southport. We currently live in the Raleigh area but are originally from New England. Southport is a lovely coastal town, quiet in the winter, bustling in the summer. 30 minutes south of Wilmington, 5 miles from beautiful ocean beaches.

Southport was named "Happiest Seaside Town" by Coastal Living in 2015.
Here's the link:
Southport Voted "America's Happiest Seaside Town" by Coastal Living - Southport NC - TownofSouthportNC.com

If you don't care mind being a bit further from the coast, you may want to look at Leland, nice quiet growing community just outside of Wilmington.
