I'm currently a full time remote worker/software engineer living at Southpoint in Durham and I'm not liking it that much. I lived previously at Bexley Preston in Morrisville and loved it. I think it's time to purchase a home, but what I want appears to be over my 200k budget, however Charlotte seems to have much more affordable housing, is closer to the mountains, just as far from the beach and generally more accessible to bigger cities.

Lifestyle wise, I have a couple motorcycles (Sport Touring and Adventure) a 70lb dog that needs a yard and in desperate need of dedicated office space.

What are your impressions on the IT job market in Charlotte versus Raleigh?
Arts/Entertainment/Food?
Motorcycle destinations?
Weather/Snow/Rain? (Seems comparable to RTP)

It's an interesting perception that Charlotte's housing is cheaper. I tend to think they are fairly close together in price, with Charlotte costing a bit more than Raleigh. It's seen a bit sharper increase in prices than Raleigh.

In total numbers, the Raleigh/RTP area overall definitely has the edge in IT since that's what the area's economy is known for. That's not to say there aren't IT jobs in Charlotte, just that Raleigh would have the lead in raw numbers.

Arts/Entertainment/Food? The Raleigh area would have the edge in fine arts over Charlotte because of being the state capital, having more museums, and more of the arts oriented towards the major universities in the area. Obviously, college sports are a big deal in the Triangle area, but Charlotte has the Panthers/NASCAR, so it depends on what you're interested in. In terms of other entertainment (concerts) both areas are somewhat equal, depending on what you're interested in. In terms of food, I would give the edge to Charlotte as they seem to have a wider variety of international offerings, at least compared to Raleigh, that you can't get elsewhere in NC.

Motorcycle destinations? Sorry, that's not my interest, so I can't help you there.

Weather/Snow/Rain? (Seems comparable to RTP) It seems that in recent years, the Raleigh area has gotten more big snows than Charlotte, but both are also in a pretty risky location to end up with the wintry mix crud (freezing rain, sleet) than areas further towards the Mountains. The climate of both areas are somewhat comparable in terms of comparing places within the Piedmont area of the state. Raleigh and Charlotte are more comparable to each other than, Raleigh and Winston-Salem for example.
