Hello everyone

We will likely be moving to NC in about 10 months. My husband may be working in Asheboro. My son is what is called "Twice Exceptional" - he has autism and is a genius. We researched some schools and looks like there are 2 in Cary. Another option is a school like ALC Mosaic in Charlotte. Schools would be about 70-90 mins from Asheboro it looks like.

We are wondering what type of towns are midway between any of those points? We are looking for a larger house, land, quiet but not completely secluded, close to local coffee shops, parks and things to do. Price range for house would be $350k max.

Pittsboro is a decent compromise. It's about 35 mins to Cary and around 40 mins to Asheboro. It's close to Chapel Hill so the area has been growing. I'm no expert on Pittsboro but the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill Triangle forum can tell you more about it.

Cary is big, where are the two schools you are thinking of? I would not want to have to drive across Cary to get him to school.

The City of Apex. It's south of Cary and the intersection of hwy 64 and 540 and relatively still developing so you can find larger properties cheaply. Hwy 64 is a straight shot to Asheboro and 540 toll road gives you access to all of the Triangle quickly.

Other than that Pittsboro is a good option, closer to Asheboro but there's massive development projects to break ground eventually that will transform the area.

Thanks for the replies!

My husband works in Industrial Maintenance Mgmt. It looks as though even if his current co doesn't have a position open, we are still moving that way. So, we are pretty wide open as to being within 30 mins to Charlotte (where the schools are - they may fit better than the ones in Cary).

I've been looking closely at Waxhaw, Indian Trails and a few others.

Waxhaw and Indian Trail are not convenient for a commute to Asheboro. Do you need to be in Union County for the school?
