I’m also conflicted about this. On one hand, there are some areas that could really use the revenue from a large hotel and casino. I don’t gamble myself, but I’m not against gambling

HOWEVER some of those places I feel could use the revenue risk ending up like Tunica, Mississippi and with large, vacant buildings. I also don’t think they should be allowed everywhere in the state (certainly not the major metros that already have plenty to offer visitors) since that would just end up cannibalizing business and make the casinos unsustainable.

In my opinion, NC should have a maximum of ten casinos (including the existing Harrah’s Cherokee resort in Murphy)

I'm not much of a gambler myself, but it should absolutely be allowed. It goes back to the basic principle that it's not my business what other people do with their own money.

For the entire state??? Come on now, that's extremely silly. You realize how many towns/cities that would exclude from the opportunity?

A few lawmakers in South Carolina want to allow casino gambling in their state and they eye two particular locations. South of Charlotte and the Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach which would be the Atlantic City of the south. But South Carolina is even more conservative than North Carolina.
All I can say is write to the Bureau of Indian affairs and complain that it hasn't been approved. Berger sent a letter signed by other Raleigh lawmakers who all got campaign donations from the Cherokee with the understanding that that they would block competition.

For the record, Tim Moore did all or most of the legal work.

I would vote to allow it. The government's job isn't to nanny the population.

I will also add that gambling is not something that anybody should be doing, and it is wrong, especially because of how it takes advantage of poor folk.

The general assembly won't vote for it as long as the Cherokee are paying them off to oppose it. The only way that anything will happen is to get the Kings Mountain casino approved. When people realize that it puts people to work and brings big name entertainment in, they'll get rid of the crooks who line their pockets with payoffs.

Kings Mountain will make the difference because it's so close to Charlotte.

It would be good for those that want to participate in gaming. Not my cup of tea anymore.

It takes advantage of people who have no impulse control. That includes the middle class, the wealthy, and the well educated.

True but so does the government. The government takes advantage of the poor all the time. There are moral arguments. However its not for the government to say how people should spend their money. The majority of people who play the casino games aren't poor because they don't have the money to begin with to gamble like that. The lottery is different because tickets are so cheap compared to money spent casino gambling. Yes middle class families could have some problems but like I said its not for the government to decide no more than it is to decide whether people who have an alcohol problem can drink.
