Emelvee- You got out at a good time. With out current Socialist Governor AND Mayor.....NYC is ruined and people here are either becoming more left liberal "progressive" and hostile OR none of them speak English and want nothing to do with you anyway. Most working, blue collar people are leaving or have left already. The outrageous cost of living and low quality of life makes you not want to put down roots here and raise a family. We are the new California :-(

I am in Brooklyn, NY and the change is happening FAST.

Cant wait to come down and thanks for all this info.!

Any recommendations? Looking for simple life and country living...and my husband refuses to live near the water. We know a lot of Northerners head to the triangle area but to be honest, we want a different experience. We have people in Cary and they arent crazy about the area anymore. Know people in the Lake Norman area also that love it (think its Concord?)

We are heading there in May to look at areas. Your suggestions are appreciated!!
Looking for a new/different experience?
When I relocated from MA to WNC by way of FL, I didn't bother with the towns that surround the major central/East coast cities, headed straight to the mountains for beautiful scenery, beautiful people, as well as cooler Summer temps.
The major employment opportunities will be in Asheville.
I'm in Marshall = good living, but you'll find that in towns that surround the Asheville metro area.

What about Asheville proper; specifically, East Asheville?

The City Asheville is not politically conservative.

The commute to Raleigh might be a bit much from most of Moore County. Fayetteville is within decent proximity, but the job market there isn't what I'd call great unless you're military.

Nor a place for "simple, country living" that the OP is seeking.

Chatham, yes. Outside of parts of Sanford, I don’t see Lee County voting blue anytime soon. Neighboring I’d also add that Moore County is very red and could be an option for the OP.

Literally every county that surrounds Mecklenburg, including the two in South Carolina are Republican counties. In Mecklenburg County, the OP can go to Huntersville, Cornelius, Pineville, and Matthews or they could live in the Ballantyne on SouthPark areas of Charlotte.

Areas near Wilmington:

All of the counties in this area still vote Republican, but I will say it’s areas like Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Monkey Junction and Porter’s Neck that help make New Hanover red. I will add that Onslow Countiy is pretty heavily red (Republican candidates tend to win by 30 or so points here). Carteret and Craven Counties could also be options that the OP could look into.

The OP is also looking for country too and those places in Meck are not it. I would say try Rowan county and parts of Kannapolis and Concord. Salisbury and Rockwell too.

Must’ve missed it.

Anywho:

Eastern Union County, Northern Cabarrus County, Most of Gaston and Lincoln Counties if you want rural and conservative. I would also consider North of Mooresville in Iredell County but will warn you that Traffic going into Charlotte can be a hassle on 77.
