I'm sure most states have decent public TV, but I commend UNC-TV on their NC-based programs. There are a couple of programs ("Our State", for example, which is sponsored by the magazine of the same name) that do features on NC towns, cities, and areas.
It is very informative viewing for those interested in the history of some NC places, as well as general tourist attractions and places to visit in NC. For example, one show just ended about the Bath and coastal area of NC; another is coming on about the Great Smoky Mtn Railroad.
One thing about NC compared to somewhere like Florida (where I'm originally from) - there are a lot of people here with families that go back several generations, and because of that there is a tremendous amount of state and regional pride.
I second that. Excellent locally-produced programs. Many of the UNC-TV programs are picked up and shown across the U.S. by other public broadcasting TV networks. The UNC-TV Network has 11 stations throughout the state.
