Hello,

My boyfriend and I are looking to make a move to Asheville and some information could be really helpful to us!
We would be moving from Florida where we have been completely miserable.
Between the sky high cost of living and the unruly heat, we have grown to dislike Florida very much. Beautiful place to visit, not a great place to live.
What is the cost of living like in Ashville?
Are there any areas in or very close to Asheville you would suggest looking into?
What are the apartment rents/cost of groceries like?
What areas should we stay away from?
Is Asheville close to/in mountains? If not, are they close by?
Does it snow? If now, about how far would you have to drive to see some?

We were looking into Erie, PA because we are longing for the snow and predominately colder weather throughout the year than hot weather but considering I've lived in Florida my whole life my family is somewhat against moving some place with so much snow (since I don't know how to drive in/deal with heavy snow) but of course I would still love to be close enough to travel to see snow.

Provo, UT was on the top of my list with gorgeous mountains and plenty of snow but it's become very apparent that the cost of living there is high as well and part of the reason for moving from FL is that we just can't afford to live here. We are hard working people with amazing work ethic but do not have college degrees for higher paying jobs.

The process of finding a suitable place for us has been really stressful, any help will be greatly appreciated..

Jobs are not in abundance in Asheville.

If you are not used to driving in snow, you might want to consider a midpoint. I'd suggest that you check Indeed for jobs in Shelby and Gastonia. They are west of Charlotte. Rents will be lower. You can make frequent trips to Asheville, year round, and decide for yourselves if you want to move to the mountains or just make frequent visits.

There is also a BMW plant in Greer, SC. Greer would not be that far from Asheville. You'd want to check about Greer on the Greenville/Spartanburg board.

Asheville has some of the highest real estate prices in NC - purchase and rent. Except for healthcare, not many well-paying jobs.

If you have to ask that question, I'd suggest doing a bit more research.

The cost of living in Asheville is extremely high, the pay in the area is fairly low.
