Just left NC after 11 years,
On the plus side
lower property taxes
moderate winters, with four seasons
slower pace of life
everyone waves

on the minus side
higher income tax,
annual property tax on vehicles
home owners insurance more expensive (generally anywhere in the southeast)
due to all the hurricanes,
no job industry, and I mean no job industry
schools could use improvements...
long hot summers
everyone waves, but they really want to be left alone,

My only two generalizations:

--property tax on the car when I bought it in another state
--resentment toward transplants (granted I've only seen that on this board - but - maybe it's only vocalized on this board)

Yes, mosquitoes pick you up and take you away.

Actually, NC is the only place I've ever heard of mosquitoes (actually, "no-seeums") bothering you INSIDE the house.

They are wicked. But they're usually only a problem if you're near water.

Biggest problem with NC is the governor and taxes.
