Hello, We are beginning the exit plan out of Florida We are in our mid 50's but have an adult daugther, her husband and their 5 year old going to move with us. So, our needs are layered! We must be within 45 minutes to an hour from the airport, a good school district for the 5yr old, mountain views (not necessarily up on the side of mountain with accessibility issues!) with a budget for a 3/2 with a little room around the property of around $250K-$300K

One option might be the town of King's Mountain near Charlotte. King's Mountain itself is not real high, but the town has convenience to the Charlotte job market and airport. You might search in the Charlotte sub-fourum for more information on real-estate prices and schools.

The other airport in the west of the state is in Asheville. However, realestate close to Asheville is quite expensive, and the job market is more limited. You could search for more information in the Western North Carlina subforum.

A third option is near the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport in South Carolina, which would put you close to towns in NC like Flat Rock and Columbus.

You probably should supply a bit more specific information such as the following.

1. With the requirement to be within an hour of an airport, is someone going to be doing frequent business travel? If so, it would be preferreable to be near Charlotte for better connections.
2. Do you prefer a city, small town or country residence? How far from shopping, medical care, entertainment are you willing to be?
3. Do the adults need to locate jobs in specific fields?

Then, if you truly want to be in the mountains and not Charlotte, you should post the question in the Western North Carolina sub-forum. Many people have already asked similar questions and received good answers.

Another option is Mt. Airy. It's exactly an hour to Piedmont Triad Airport according to Google Maps, and it's far less expensive than staying near Ashville, but again that is if mountain views are required.

Jobs? What level of airport is required?

If you want to be in the Asheville area, I suggest checking Hendersonville. It is a large enough town to have amenities (and maybe jobs). It currently has 5 houses listed on Realtor.com with "hill or mountain views" which are $300,000 or less. There are also numerous other houses in nearby towns which might meet your requirements.
