Hey everyone my wife and I are currently renting in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. We’ve lived in Florida our whole life and while we love it, we really want a smaller, less busy and boring place with seasons and safety to raise our two young children. My wife will become a teacher soon, and I can transfer to another Walmart Distribution Center in the state.

We plan on buying our first home, and home prices are a huge factor for us right behind crime rates.

We’re trying to figure out with of the 4 distribution centers I should transfer to since a lot of my research has shown the cities they’re in are higher on the crime scale.

- Shelby
- Henderson
- Hope Mills
- Concord

And finally honesty is appreciated, do you think we’re better off staying in Florida? We really want that small town life.

Thank you to everyone to responds I appreciate your time

I would not recommend Henderson. Hope Mills is not great, but it might be workable. What is your budget for buying a house?

Frankly, neither Shelby, Henderson nor Hope Mills are particularly desirable places, imo, and Concord is so close to Charlotte that it doesn't really embody small town life. I'd suggest looking at living in Kings Mountain (near Shelby) or Mooresville (near Concord, sort of).

How much are you hoping to pay for a house?

I’ve heard about Kings Mountain and am seeing different opinions on crime rates on here

I agree with you. Kings Mountain would probably be the best for their budget. Two of the elementary schools (K - 4) have earned the federal blue ribbon award.

Yes. It's a small town with about 15,000 peope, and a lower than average crime rate. See some of the comments in this thread: //www.city-data.com/forum/north...-place-us.html

The schools get above average ratings from greatschools.org.

There is plenty of housing under $240,000 even some new construction.

Apparently the town name is pronounced MEBB-in.
