If I could live anywhere in the US, I'd want to be close to my parents again. NC is lovely, but I miss seeing them and I hate the idea of starting a family without my mother near me.

Probably northern Ca, Monteray area. My family and friends would still be close and the beauty there is amazing but not affordable. Next best thing is NC. I do love it here, the beauty and the people. Still, I do also miss family and friends in CA. S. CA is not a place I would choose to live again unless it was back in the mountains! NC reminds me of CA 30 years ago so I guess NC is where I am to stay!!

Absolutely. I would live in Southport if we had more money and if there were no hurricanes.

Default Best Places to Live

If I had my choice and could keep the same standard of living I currently have, I would choose to live on the North Shore of Oahu. I would not live in a tourist town, but a small secluded town with a warm sandy beach and the waves gently rushing in.

My husband and I moved from South Florida, a great place twenty years ago.
We chose North Carolina because it has both the mountains and the ocean; we get the benefits of the seasons without the long dreaded winters up north and the warm almost hot winters in Florida; I know the natives here disagree with this one and I understand why, but it is not crowded where we are now and that is pure bliss. I'm originally from Chicago and he is from Colorado Springs and those were among our choices. But you can't beat North Carolina in so many ways. It's laid back-not a rat race. People are great. Yes even some of the transplants. And it is downright beautiful. And in our case, it is cheaper here. The downside-the kids are still in Florida but eventually plan on moving out of there down the road to places yet to be decided. So............

This is the place to be. Although I really really want to vacation in Hawaii some day before I get too old to appreciate it and remember it.

Would live back in NY if I could afford to. My other choice would be Hawaii.
