If you could live anywhere in the U.S., would it be NC? (Charlotte: standard of living, best place)

Where would you live if you could live anywhere in the U.S. (at the same standard of living you currently have)? Would you still choose NC?

I like to live in California, but I cannot afford living.. So I prefer NC.

I might choose to live in NC but closer to the ocean if you didn't have to take job locations into account.

Good question! There could be two answers: based on nearness to family and friends, I'd say NC (Triangle and Charlotte both) is the best place up and down the Eastern seaboard. Almost every other city is just too large and crowded.

Based on pure beauty of a place, I'd say the Pacific Northwest--Portland, Oregon or Tacoma, Washington. Still reasonably sized cities but absolutely gorgeous and lush landscape. (Vancouver in Canada gets props too).

Yes, I would still choose NC--we did--we moved here from CA. The only change would be coastal NC in Winter and Spring and NC mountains for Fall and Summer. I'm always torn between the ocean and the mountains as I love them both.

But more so, it's the beauty of the North Carolina people who keep me loyal to NC...

Due primarily to the lack of jobs in the former, and the expense of the latter, we chose to come here, where we are quite happy, but you'll always be compromising something.

Yes. We went through this when leaving Colorado...we were in the position to choose whatever state we wanted to live in most. We chose NC. We may make one more move...to the coast. But, we are here to stay.

good question. I think I'd go back out west, to the mountains, not sure. Different places seem suitable at different times of your life. Right now, NC feels right.
