I'm a teacher relocating to nc from ny. I need some tips on safe, affordable, suburban areas that are good for young professionals. I've applied to jobs throughout the state- raleigh, durham, cary, charlotte, fayetteville, wilmington, greensboro, etc. I'm trying to narrow down my search. What are your suggestions? Thanks for your help!

Cary, Morrisville, and North Raleigh are suburban areas, considered to be safe, and very close to RTP jobs. Good luck!

^ And Fayetteville is mostly a very heavily "military town", with all that entails.

Ditto on these, plus Apex and Holly Springs (except a longer drive).

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I've never made a move out of state... so I think I need all of the advice I can get... whatever you want to shoot my way would be great... from relocating "basics" to your favorite places.

SW Durham (specifically 27713, 27707)
N Raleigh
Cary
Morrisville
Chapel Hill (less affordable, but great for younger singles if you don't mind the college students)

I disagree with Apex and Holly Springs - those are fine for families but not for young singles, and a bit farther out (unless you get a job in those areas)

Default Why not look at Pittsboro?

WE love it here - it's a growing community near Chapel Hill. A great place to live.

Quite a bit will depend on what you like to do. Do you like to hang out at the beach and enjoy nightlife? If so, then Wilmington would be the place for you- it is a great town. Are you more of a surburban guy? Then Cary, Morrisville and Raleigh would all be a good fit. Good luck, and welcome to NC!

I'm a teacher from NY, moved to FL, and will move again to NC this summer. I already have a job lined up. It all really depends on what type of community you want to teach in, what you want to teach, and what type of neighborhood you want to live in.

If you are going to be teaching in Wake, then Cary, MOrrisville, North Raleigh, Apex, F-V and HollY Springs are all good areas to find yourself in. However, as a starting teaching, I imagine salaries are not stellar, so F-V and Holly Springs are where you will find safer, affordable housing. It really depends on where the jobs are, because there really is no public trans system and the highways can be brutal to travel, depending on where you are going.

Good luck and welcome to the area! We need more teachers with northern accents!
