Husband and I would like to move to North Carolina. Questions are - what cities or areas are the safest for living? What are the more liberal/progressive areas to reside in? How are the marijuana laws? Can you have a medical marijuana license? We have one now in PA. We do not have or want kids so schooling not important. We are two young 30 year olds who love dogs and have four and want to live somewhere near a progressive area and have access to the beach nearby if possible. Any ideas on where would be best in NC?

There is nowhere in Coastal NC that is truly progressive. The one place close might be Wilmington. Most counties voted about 60% Republican last election, but Wilmington was closer to 49%-49%.
The closest you'll come to your criteria are also the most expensive zip codes in the state.
Are you independently wealthy or will you also need to work wherever you go?
When you say you'd like to have a beach "nearby", what does that mean exactly?
My guess is it's only a matter of time before at a minimum, NC has medical marijuana. Even a more conservative state like Louisiana allows medical marijuana. In time, marijuana will be legal in almost all states, both for medical and recreational purposes. Younger people are highly in favor of this.
