We and Brazil seem to have handled it pretty similarly, with similarly catastrophic results.

So what? Those people still died from COVID-19, even if they had other health conditions at the time of death. Many people with underlying conditions would still have lived longer had they not gotten COVID-19.

The weekly excess death count has been much higher than average since the pandemic started so, if anything, we're still not counting all COVID deaths: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/c...ess_deaths.htm

I mean it's just like how the Republicans are trying to play up the looting/rioting going on is mass chaos and war zones in cities. While that's absolutely nothing of the sort and mostly contained in one small section of each city like downtown Raleigh or Portland/Seattle if anything.

We've been so poisoned by social media/internet/cable news that we no longer have the ability to think about issues rationally and see other people who don't see the same ways as enemies that must be destroyed.

It matters greatly. With this data it shows we should have taken steps to protect those people and let the rest of us go about relatively normal life without destroying the greatest economy we have seen. This is something many people were suggesting early on, but were silenced in favor of a massive disruption to everyone.
