Why? They were right in '16.

I hope with the Dem. wave (if there is one), republicans come to regret all those lawsuits on gerrymandering. I mean. A lot of the gerrymandering rules have been litigated in courts with the republicans generally coming out victorious, I thought.

I hope democrats can gain majorities in NC and draw the maps to their advantage. Yes. Partisan gerrymandering is wrong. Period.

But there’s no point in locking yourself out of power when the other side is obviously willing to draw the maps almost surgically.

I hope that doesn't happen. I hope they work their a$$es off to create a better life for NC-nians, pass progressive policies for everyone, environment and economy, so that we keep voting for them. Gerrymandering is wrong and no one should do. Instead they should work on making sure there are strict laws so that those in power can't easily gerrymander our maps.

I also hope that going forward we fully switch to voting by mail. I think this has been a good experiment, and people should start voting that way. I moved here from a state that was 100% vote by mail. No problems. No one needs to stay in line. You get your ballot and a catalogue about each person and what they stand for. Easy, efficient, great for everyone evolved.

thy just said 4,549K votes cast in NC already.

in 2016, 4,552K total votes were cast.

by my estimation (Census stats) there are only ~8.2MM adults in NC.

that seems almost impossible. this site https://worldpopulationreview.com/st...oters-by-state. says we have a 65.2% registration rate, though I'm sure new registrations have added to that.

but 65.2% of 8.2MM is 5,350K. That would mean 85% of registered voters have already voted. That just seems impossible turnout.

somebody correct me, I've got to be way off.

I think that is correct, Bo. Huge turnout at least for early voting this go round.

wral just posted - 7,345K registered voters.

the census estimate is July 2019. So the 8.2MM adults should be relatively accurate.

that seems like a stunningly high registration rate.

4.3MM votes were cast in 2008.
4.5MM in 2016.

we're up abt 1MM people since 2008. At same 79% adults ratio, that would be 790K extra potential voters.

Where I live in NC new people are moving here in droves, so we have way more voters than 4 years ago. Lines for early voting were longer than we have ever experienced before.
