Hi all,

I moved out of NC and registered my car elsewhere. My NC plates are expiring on February 28 and my insurance associated with that is still active. My NC plates are lying somewhere in the house, but I need to do little digging to find it out. Is it okay to report them as lost and turn in the registration using MVR18A form online? Or do I need to find it out somehow and mail them? It might be technically possible to find it with little effort.

I would like to know if there are any issues turning in the registration with lost plate option?

I can let it expire, but I would need to pay one month of insurance unnecessarily.

When I moved from NC to SC in 2008, I never turned in my license plate. I moved back to NC in 2013. When I asked to have my tag reinstated (it's a low number Blue Ridge Pkwy tag), they wouldn't let me, but they didn't ask me to return it either. I wouldn't sweat returning the actual plate.
