As I'm searching various apartment complexes online in both Charlotte and Raleigh, it appears that no utilities or services are included (water, trash, sewer, etc). I would expect to pay the electric separately from rent, but am surprised about water not being included. Is this common?

What is a typical water, sewer and trash bill for a 1 bedroom apartment? Is heat needed in the winter? If so, is it electric?

I never heard of trash pickup service not being included in rent, but electricity, water/sewer and natural gas are commonly paid by the individual renter along with CATV and telephone services. Home heating is needed in the winter time anywhere within the state.

RALEIGH DURHAM WSFO AP, NORTH CAROLINA - Climate Summary

CHARLOTTE WSO ARPT, NORTH CAROLINA - Climate Summary

NC Home Heating Sources

Electricity - 49%
Natural gas - 24%
Bottled, tank, or LP gas - 13%
Fuel oil, kerosene, etc. - 12%
Wood - 2%

It is common here (but not where I am from). My water, sewer and trash come on one bill. It is usually $9-11 and like $3 or 4 of it is an administration fee (???). Heat is needed! Not much, but it is! Most heat is electric as well. It is cheaper than running the air, so it won't cost that much. My electric bill (which included using the washer, dryer, and water heater) ranges from $45-maybe 90ish in the summer. That is for a one bedroom apt that is 900 sf.

I have never been in apartment complex that included any of those utilities but apartment complexes have dumpsters for your trash.
So it will be rare to find those that include these services.
You may find some that will provide washer & dryer which is a perk to me. Especially on upper levels.
I have lived in past in small complexes that did include water & sewer.

This is very helpful. What do you estimate your electric bill is for 12 months?

For an entire year? $750-850 in all, I'd guess. I live in a new apartment, though. So my furnace and air conditioner are new (and I assume more energy efficient).

Oh, and I came from an aparment where water, sewer, garbage and HEAT were all included (in MIchigan- where it is cold). I only paid for electric!!
I never dreamed of having to pay for garbage in an apartment. It really ticks me off since my entire complex has only ONE compactor (no dumpsters). And, naturally, I live in the building furthest from it!
