Hey Guys,
I got a job in Goldsboro and will be moving here soon. I am single guy and looking for a safe apartment to live.
Can you guys suggest some nice and safe apartments in or around Goldsboro?

We have had several home invasion type robberies of apartments in town in the last year. Two people I work with had it happen to them. I don't know of any Safe apartments. I live out of town in the county in a nice subdivision.

thanks for your reply ----- so can you suggest what area I should move in?
I guess I have heard so many bad things about Goldsboro--- safety is my biggest concern for now.

Goldsboro also has a lot of great qualities. Safety should not be a concern unless your lifestyle takes you places you pretty much shouldn't be going to anyway. The community loves the military, has a great arts system that sponsors a great deal of community events, and is in the middle of a huge revitalization effort. As with any town or small city, there will always be bad elements but they are not the majority here. It is also in the middle of everything-the coast and it's great beaches to the east and mountains in the west (and some sweet slopes to ski) with plenty of interesting stuff in between.

As far as apartments or such places to live, apartment ratings.com is a good place to get info. I lived in an apartment off Spence Ave that was great for my purposes (close to base, right around the corner from every food establishment, grocery store, and general shopping). It was quiet and the price was mid to high for this area in general. There are houses in town (and don't let anyone scare you off from living "in town" or the downtown area. There are pockets of great neighborhoods in the downtown area). Tehre are some converted warehouses (turned into urban lofts) that are priced for professionals. There are also some new apartments over on the main road coming out of the base (Berkley Blvd.) which are pretty nice.

If you have kids, a majority of families usually choose to head to the area between Goldsboro and Pikeville (it's just a few miles away). The school system in that area is considered one of the best and there is a lot of new construction going on with housing. Normally, people do not choose to live in the more economically depressed areas like Dudley or Mar Mac but there are changes being made there. It all depends on how far you want to drive.

For more info on some of the really cool things living in Goldsboro has to offer, visit the website of www.dgdc.org (Goldsboro's Downtown Development website).

Living anywhere is not all about what you are moving into but your attitude. Ultimately, you will decide what kind of experience you will have here if you have a good mindset.

October is a great month to move. The weather should be really nice (not too hot or cold). I hope you have a "smooth move" and everything goes well. I know too well how stressful moving to a new area and getting adjusted can be.

There is a great little Irish pub downtown called The Flying Shamrock. I think they have a myspace page. I hear they have great food and a very friendly atmosphere.

I hope you enjoy your time here. We actually worked on getting back here after living in other states.

But be prepared to GET LOST! They have the most convuluted roads I've ever driven on! I can get around Raleigh & Chapel Hill with no problem! I had to go last week to take my dd to a specialist, and between my Mapquest directions and my husband's directions (he's familiar with Goldsboro), I felt pretty confident! Well.....they built some new roads and changed road signs---not very acurately...and I got LOST! Even called the dr's office and THEY couldn't tell me how to get there!!!! I finally stopped at the National Guard armory and got a very nice soldier to give me directions on how to get there.

Thank you for your wishes jj2240, yea I am all excited bout the move, I am planning to visit Goldsboro in 2nd week of September. I did call a no. of apt. complexes and looks like getting an apt. should not be a problem. Do you recommend any particular apt. complex?
Initially, when my company suggested me to move to Goldsboro, I googled it and the kind of information I found was scary but reading the replies from fellow members like you made me feel it is definitely a liveable place. I am from Kansas City, online data for KC shows crime rate is really high but I really love the city and never felt crime rate was a problem, so from your reply I understood Goldsboro is also like that--- there are some shady areas that should be avoided otherwise its all good.
And thank you for the tip LRoyal10900, I will avoid driving at night for first few days and will remember to bring my GPS with me (I just hope it will have a good reception).
Also, if any of you guys can suggest which cell phone company has good coverage in Goldsboro. I have t-mobile and they said they are not operating in that area so I might have to switch my plan?

Goldsboro is not that bad, just boring. I live outside town about 7 miles south east from the AFB gate. We have had bad reception with both Altel and Suncom. Like one bar only and have to go upstairs in the bonus room by the window to get two bars. But only at home in town is OK.
