We are from upstate (syracuse area), NC is great. No snow!
We live near the coast now and find that most people are not from NC but are transplants.
Come on down-I would buy an older home in an established neighborhood rather than buy new, they don't build new ones like the old ones.

Hi,

We just moved to NC from Rochester in Sept.

We looked in Mooresville and liked it. The lake property was really expensive and the traffic to Charlotte not great, so we kept looking and ended up in Southern Pines. There are a ton of yankees here and we have had no problems at all.

In Rochester we lived in the Park Ave neighborhood and liked the idea that we can still walk to a little main street for something to eat. We can even get good pizza. Right now the job market seems to be OK.

Our taxes were $11,000 per year now $1,500 for the same $300,000 house.

You sound like you will fit in fine

E Mail me if you want ( PS we only miss Wegmans and the Public Market )

Actually, we'll probably rent if we move to NC. We plan to build a self-sustaining passive solar home in NY when we retire. I've heard the Mennonites in the area (NY) build a fantastic house. Tired of paying these energy companies a big chunk of my hard-earned dollars. Originally we were just going to move there and work from home (which we do now), but unless my husband can find another job that will let him do that, we'll need to move out of NY for a while.

Thanks for the warm welcome, though. I do think I'm going to like the southern hospitality, transplanted or not.
