I'm so confused...

My car dealer inspected my car a few weeks ago and put a new sticker on the windshield...but the stickers on my license plate say 11/08. I moved here a year ago and the car had been inspected when I bought it late last year so I don't get it? I called the dealer and she said the stickers for the tags would come in the mail, is that true? I haven't gotten them yet.

You will have DMV mail in plenty of time for the 11/08 expiration.

The stickers on your tag reflect the date of your car registration renewal whihc is different from the inspection sticker on your window. I get the registration bill in the mail yearly from the DMV. About a week or so after paying the registration fee, the new car registration along with the tag stickers comes in the mail. By having the stickers on you tag the cops know your car is registerd.

Hope that makes sense!

You can renew using a credit card on the DMV website. Renewal mailed promptly.

Big change regarding inspection and renewal in October.

Yes, the inspection and the license renewal are two different things, never the same month unless by coincidence. With my last car, I had gotten it into my brain that inspection was always March and license was November, and then when I switched cars, both changed and I'm still always forgetting about when one is due. The license renewal form comes in the mail, at least.

Whew, thanks guys! In Florida they handed you your registration and stickers for the tags at the same time. And there was no inspection...I don't even remember what happened in NJ.

Saturn, thanks for the link!

Yay! No more ugly sticker! Not to mention, with the dates synced it will be much easier to remember to do both.

Last year I renewed my registration on time and completely forgot about the inspection because I also came from FL where we didn't have to worry about that (actually they used to do inspections in FL when I first started driving, but stopped shortly thereafter). Thankfully I remembered just before my 15 day grace period was up!

When you renew your registration you will also get the sticker and the actual registration in the mail at the same time, just like they did in FL. The only thing different is the inspection. But according to saturnfan's link, that will be changing very soon (thankfully).

Because I bought my car new in NC shortly after moving here, my inspection and registration have always synced with each other. I can't imagine having to worry about two different months. It is bad enough that the registrations here are tied to the month you registered the vehicle instead of the month of your birthday (which was how it worked in FL). It was much easier to remember that my registration renewal was due the month of my birthday.
