I have a good friend here in Baltimore moving to North Carolina. She is not to fond of bugs and other critters. Does anyone have any critter knowledge that she should be aware of? I am asking this because I was bit by a brown recluse spider in Baltimore and since that happened, I was wondering if that sort of bug is more prominent there? Thanks in advance!

if she doesnt like critters then North Carolina isnt for her there is oodles of threads on snakes, wildlife, bugs use the search feature and I think it best if they did the search so that would become familiar with what they see.

As a Yankee transplant and a squeamish bug-hater myself, I don't think it's anything to freak out about. You are more likely to find bugs in the house, even if you keep it scrupulously clean, than you are up north--I've found ants and earwigs and several slugs (they sneak in through the vent!), and there are definitely spiders in my garage.

I've heard of people seeing snakes in their yard, but I have yet to see one myself, and of course there are snakes in Yankeeland, too. One thing that did surprise me is that there are quite a few very small lizards (salamanders?) scuttling around, but I've seen them only rarely.

But mainly you just need to use your common sense--don't garden without gloves, don't go poking around dark corners of garages or basements with bare feet or bare hands, etc.

Those little lizards are probably Green Anoles. They eat a lot of bugs and are great to have around.
