This was the a dead heat in NC. The state remains deep purple.

I believe the NC Board of Elections has until December 15th to officially declare a winner, not that it matters this year.

Excellent map for deciding where it is best to live in North Carolina. If you like blue, move to the blue counties and if you like red, move to the red counties. I have lived in one blue county, Mecklenburg and two reds, Wilkes and Union. Oh, I forgot, I have also lived in Iredell, Cumberland, and Catawba.

Looking at this map, it looks like the college towns have had a lot of influence.

???? I'm confused. The State Board of Elections specifically states that students can register to vote where they attend school "so long as they declare that their home is the community where they are attending school and they don't register to vote elsewhere." And that's pretty much the case nationwide. So I assume some of the vote is certainly attributable to students, but I don't really see what's "inaccurate" with that.

Obama won 34 counties
McCain won 66 counties

Obama won the seven most populous counties in the state:
MECKLENBURG - 863,147
WAKE - 832,590
GUILFORD - 460,780
FORSYTH - 338,679
CUMBERLAND - 313,616
DURHAM - 254,740
BUNCOMBE - 225,609

Interestingly, McCain took the next eight counties by population:
GASTON - 200,972
NEW HANOVER - 189,922
UNION - 182,344
ONSLOW - 169,302
CABARRUS - 164,384
JOHNSTON - 157,296
DAVIDSON - 156,400
CATAWBA - 153,404
