Hello all,

Resident of Va here. My mother and stepfather recently moved to Fayeteville from Va. My stepfather is from Morocco and has had his license about a year. Him and my mother both have a car.

Problem/Question is, Geico now says the insurance is going to be $200 more since North Carolina allows a new driver surcharge. My mom says the other insurance companies she looked at look like they will cost the same.

I've looked at N.C. D.O.T. and a couple other places and found nothing which looked especially helpful, except maybe a number for help/information from the N.C. D.O.I.

So, is this all there is to it? Are they really stuck paying this much more for two years? Are teenagers in N.C. really paying this much?

Really, I just want to know if there is something they are missing as new comers that they should know to save money?

Thanks ahead for any and all help, I appreciate it.

No, new teen drivers cost more...more wrecks, more tickets = higher insurance premiums.

Oh I know, but my stepdad is not really a teenager, and I don't live with them/am not on their insurance, so the age factor is not really involved.

it's not age but verifiable driving experience in the US. I'm sure your father is a great, competent driver. But his driving experience HERE is what the surcharge is about.
